REF’s NEW STRATEGY | Building Resilient Roma Communities through Education

This strategy proposal was developed using a comprehensive approach that included various methods. First, desk research was conducted on Roma education, future trends in education and work, irreversible transformations in the world—such as the role of digitalization and AI, environmental policies and international affairs priorities—and various reports and analyses of the Roma community’s development. This generated a solid foundation of knowledge and information to support the development of the strategy.

Additionally, empirical observations were made in Roma communities to better understand the challenges and opportunities related to education for Roma children and youth. Interviews and dialogues were also held with REF beneficiaries to gain insight into their experiences and perspectives on education.

National and international consultations with stakeholders in Roma education were also conducted as part of the strategy development process. This included engaging with government officials, REF alumni, civil society organizations, potential donors, educators, similar education initiatives across Europe and other continents, and other relevant actors to gather diverse perspectives on the issues and identify areas of collaboration.

Finally, an internal review of the qualitative impact of REF activities, was conducted to assess the effectiveness of existing programs and identify areas for improvement. This feedback was then integrated into the strategy development process to ensure that REF efforts are focused on the most effective interventions. Overall, REF’s strategy was developed through a rigorous and inclusive process that drew on diverse sources of knowledge and expertise.
