The Roma Education Fund Romania has started the implementation of the project “Connected to Education – integrated approach for children whose parents are working abroad”, code MySmis 138823, co-financed by the European Social Fund through the Operational Programme Human Capital. It will run for a period of 32 months.
The aim of the project is to provide individualized educational and psycho-social support to stimulate the participation in education for 270 children whose parents are working abroad from four communities in the North-East and Central regions of Romania through integrated formal, non-formal, and informal learning interventions in education and development.
The target group consists of 270 primary and secondary school pupils; approximately 30 are pre-school, 120 primary and 120 secondary school pupils. Out of the total, 50% are Roma children and at least 20% are from rural areas. In addition, 130 parents/legal guardians/ or people in charge of these children are part of the target group of the project.
Through the proposed activities and the pursued results, the project contributes to increasing access to education for children and pupils from backgrounds with socio-economic problems, affected by a crisis in their psycho-cognitive development. Moreover, it increases the administrative capacity of schools, and thus of the institutions included in the project, which will become good practice models in developing and implementing an inclusive educational system integrated at school level.
Among the expected results are:
- 270 children and pupils who are better prepared and supported in their education, 50% of whom are roma
- Four Information, Advice, and Support Centres (IASC) for children and parents
- Innovative activities carried out in IASC through children’s playtime sessions
- Parental education services offered to a minimum of 130 parents/guardians/legal representatives/people in charge of the children
- Social counselling services offered to a minimum of 130 of parents/guardians/legal representatives/people in charge of the children
