The Roma Health Scholarship Program (RHSP) was launched in 2008, as a joint initiative between the Public Health Program of Open Society Foundations and Roma Education Fund. RHSP is a scholarship and academic support scheme for Roma from Bulgaria, Macedonia, Romania and Serbia pursuing medical studies at vocational and/or tertiary education levels. Its aim is to support the emerging generation of Roma professionals in the medical field who would contribute to the improvement of the access to quality health services for Roma communities, as well as to help dismantling the negative stereotypes about Roma with their own positive examples of Roma qualified professionals. The program has supported 521 beneficiaries since its inception: 113 in Bulgaria, 104 at Macedona, 159 in Romania and 135 in Serbia.
