Czech School Inspectorate obliges schools to submit statistics on Roma pupils

Number of teachers voiced their concerns when the Czech School Inspectorate obliged them to submit statistics on Roma pupils. In a Czech Television’s “Události, komentáře” on 26 September the data collection has been discussed by Monika Šimůnková, Czech Republic’s Human Rights Commissioner, and Jiří Pilař, head of the Association of Special Pedagogues.  Jan Stejskal, REF Country Facilitator for the Czech Republic was invited to provide expert opinion.

In a Czech Television’s “Události, komentáře” on 26 September the data collection has been discussed by Monika Šimůnková, Czech Republic’s Human Rights Commissioner, and Jiří Pilař, head of the Association of Special Pedagogues.  Jan Stejskal, REF Country Facilitator for the Czech Republic was invited to provide expert opinion. Apart from highlighting the importance of data collection and REF’s support to the idea, he also shared some further statistics on anti-Roma sentiments in the Czech education. Pointing at the possible growth of segregation in education he also urged the government to act, follow country’s legislation. In line with REF’s policy Jan Stejskal also promoted preschool education as a way forward.
