Budapest, 20 March

Within the new cycle of the project financed by the Roma Education Fund (REF) 30 Roma high school students will participate in the “Program for enrolment in the Medical Faculties”.

Under the motto “The door is open, study medical studies” this is the third year of successful implementation of the  project for preparation of high school Roma students for enrollment in the Medical Faculties in Macedonia.
With this activity, the Center for Institutional Development – CIRa continues its contribution to the mission of increasing the number of Roma students studying Medical Studies.

Statement of Pervina Ismaili, participant at the preparatory program
“This is a wonderful opportunity for me and for all the young Roma who have a dream and desire to become doctors. From the project I expect high quality teaching that will help me to be enrolled in a Medical School. “

The project is targeting the Roma high school students in the fourth year who wish to enroll in Medical schools. Besides preparing the students for successful state graduation and admission to the medical faculties, students obtain additional training and support on motivation, self-esteem and stress management, in order to acquire skills that will be useful for their further successful education.

The implementation of the program incorporates “one -to-one” methodology and approach, where the professor works and pays individual attention only to one student, which contributes substantially to enhancing students’ progress and improvement of their work results.

At the end of May a final workshop will be held for the participants. At the workshop the students will confirm their knowledge through the final tests and will make final preparations before taking the state graduation; through this process the students will additionally acquire the necessary qualifications for enrolment in the Medical Faculties in Macedonia.

Statement of Nedime Alievska (current Medical studies student)
“The REF project has changed my life. The preparation program provided by CIRA was comprehensive and now, as current student at Medical faculty, I realize how important the entire process of preparation was. Me and my family are grateful to this program and we heartily recommend it to all young Roma who intend to pursue medical studies. “
