    Visitors of the Sziget Festival 2007, Budapest were offered to attend a three-day program series on different kinds of interesting forums, related to Roma and the education of Roma. The main topics were school segregation, the system of minority self-governments and equal opportunities. The overall aim of the series was to strengthen and popularize tolerance.

  • 2 August 2007

    On the night of 2-3 August 1944, the "Gypsy camp" at the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp was liquidated after the last group of nearly 3000 Roma inmates there were gassed.
    Tomorrow, 2 August 2007, will be the 63rd anniversary of the dire massacre. On that day European Roma pay their tribute to their assasinated fellows, remebering the Roma Holocaust, the Pharrajimos.

    The presidential commission on education has presented a report concerning the evaluation of the Romanian education system. Basescu, President of Romanian concluded that the Romanian education system is inefficient, inequitable and its quality is lower than the European standards.

  • The Hungarian Government accepted the decree of the Strategy Plan of the Decade of the Roma Inclusion without a blackball or any dwellings. The Strategy Plan would fasten the improvement process of the economical and social status of Roma. The Strategy Plan of Hungary indicates comprehensive aims in the fields of equal treatment in practice, culture media and sport besides employment, housing, healthcare and education.

  • The Hungarian Ministry of Education and Culture invites applications of Hungarian Minority Research Institutes, Legal Representatives of Research Groups and State Universities with Romology Departure under the tender called “Useful researches adaptable for the education of the Roma minority”

    The tender welcomes applications that aim to improve the efficiency of nursery and  a primary school education while also supports the preparation of additional materials in order that strengthen Romani language and folklore teaching methods. 

  • This year, the Hungarian Ministry of Education allocates HUF 30 million for the running of the KATAPULT mentor program that supports and helps disadvantaged students to maintain in the tertiary educational system.

    The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour together with the Advisory Board of the  Public Foundation for the Hungarian Gypsies (MACIKA) have invited applications for the Roma scholarship programs of 2007.

    Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe and Viktória Mohácsi, Member of European Parliament (ALDE) herewith invite applications for a 3 months internship in the ALDE, European Parliament, Brussels from the 17th of September 2007 till 15th of December 2007.

  • 4 July 2007 MACIKA, Hungary

    The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour together with the Advisory Board of the  Public Foundation for the Hungarian Gypsies (MACIKA) have invited applications for the Roma scholarship programs of 2007.
    Scholarships to be apportioned amongst Roma students may amount from 15.000 to 150.000 HUF: those pursuing their studies in higher education establishments abroad will receive the available highest amount. The application packages of underprivileged students will be favoured while evaluation.
